Brushless Stryker
Chuck
Doud had so much fun with his ParkZone Stryker that he just had
to
see how wild he could make it.

Micro 3D
In
our August 2005 issue, Gordon Johnson provided an overview of micro brushless
motors. For an expanded version of his discussion, please visit John Worth's
RC Micro World at www.cloud9rc.com. For a peek at micro 3D flight, see Bob Selman's video of his Micro Edgeling in flight:

Henry Pasquet's micro flyers
Henry Pasquet is widely known and well respected for building the world's
lightest and smallest radio control model airplanes. These videos will give
you an idea of just how unique his models are. The Little Bit Slow was
featured as a plan and construction article in the October 2004 issue of Fly RC. This model may be the perfect flyer for any living room. Henry's
1.15 gram flyer is currently the lightest in the world, and was featured in
the April 2005 issue of Fly RC.

Banshee Competition Expanding
As noted in the August edition of Fly RC, clubs are using Leon Shulman's Banshee in a new generation of competitions.
For example, here are the Full Throttle RC Modelers' proposed new rules.
Banshee
Leon Shulman's 1941 original Banshee took the Free Flight world by storm
with its simplified construction and spectacular performance. Leon's latest
version continues that heritage, with the addition of Radio Control for
even more flying fun. Fan-fold construction simplifies the construction
even further, and as you will see in this short video, the modern electric
power system has plenty of power for quickly getting to altitude. For more
on Leon and his Banshee, don't miss the complete article in the April 2005
issue of Fly RC magazine.

Freestyle 3D Video Contest 2004
Sponsored by Cermark!
Cermark and Fly RC magazine congratulate the top three winners of the Freestyle 3D Contest 2004. Announced in Dave Baron’s Freestyle column, the contest tasked entrants with inventing new 3D maneuvers and sending in descriptions and video clips of them. Maneuvers were judged based on innovation, pilot skill and wow factor.
Windows Media Video clips showing the first, second and third place winners can be viewed using the Windows Media Player by clicking the links below. If you have any trouble viewing these files, please email webmaster@flyrc.com.
You'll probably best enjoy these videos if you adjust your Windows Media Player for full-screen display.
First place goes to Mike Fueilly for the “Inverted Final.”
Mike describes the maneuver: “When starting final approach, roll inverted. As you get close to the ground, feed in down elevator. The plane will go into a low inverted harrier, then a very brief hover as it passes through vertical. Lower the throttle right after it passes vertical and it will lightly flop onto its gear.” Check out the video and you’ll see why this received a high wow factor rating!
Mike wins a Cermark BANCHEE E-3D ARF, Hover Package-40 (CEM-600BL-2 brushless motor), 45-amp Pheonix 45 brushless speed control (by Castle Creations), Superbox (MEC gearbox system) and APC 16x8 E-prop--all provided by Cermark.
Second place goes to Patrick Libby for the “Flashback.”
In Patrick’s words: “The maneuver starts as an abrupt 70-degree pull-up. A burst of power is needed ever so slightly before the start of the pull-up as it helps to pull the aircraft through the upward transition. The 70-degree pull-up is immediately followed by a one revolution outside tumble. I use down elevator right rudder and right aileron. I use down elevator right rudder and right aileron. The Maneuver is finished with a 3D style 5/8s inside rolling loop. The 3D style rolling loop differs from a normal F3A rolling loop in that the aircraft’s tail sags outside the radius of the loop and the nose points 5 to 10+degrees inside the loop’s radius. This allows for a tighter loop than normal.”
Patrick wins a BAANCHEE G-3D ARF (glow powered).
Third place goes to Bill Mixon for the “Torquing 8.”
This maneuver entails flying a torque-rolling airplane through a horizontal figure-8. In the video, you’ll see Bill perform his Torquing 8 around two limbo bars. Bill will receive a ONE TOUCH optical tachometer and other cool CERMARK accessories.
Honorable mention goes to Bill Mixon for his “Reverser,” which requires a reversible pitch prop—you’ll want to see the video clip of his airplane temporarily hovering with the nose pointed down.
